The Story of the Kethwal Family

Introduction:

My name is Ikram Baig, son of Khan Baig, and my tribe is Kethwal. Our family hails from the village of Charhan in New Murree. We are descendants of our great ancestor, Ketu Khan, and our forefather Nasru Khan’s predecessors have been settled in this area for centuries. Ketu Khan belonged to the ancient tribes of Iran, who came to Murree around 800 AD and settled here. Around 1200 AD, the Kethwal tribes began to convert to Islam through the preaching of an Iranian elder named ,,,,,,,,,,,,.

Chapter 1

The Beginning of the Kethwal Family

Our forefather Nasru Khan resided in the village of Charhan. Nasru Khan’s predecessors and his family spent many centuries in this area. In the 1800s, for unknown reasons, they had to migrate from Murree to Islamabad.

Chapter 2

Settlement in Islamabad

Upon reaching Islamabad, they settled in a village near Quaid-e-Azam University called Mohra. In 1836, they purchased 2 kanals of land for the first time in Dhoke Dadiya on Murree Road, Seventeen Mile. This marked the beginning of our family’s rise.

Chapter 3

Land Purchase and the Start of Prosperity

After purchasing land in 1836, our family began acquiring more land on a large scale at the same location. According to some evidence, in 1912, 12 kanals and 9 marlas of land were sold for 250 rupees.

Military Services and Family Development by Bahadur Khan and Niaz Ali Khan

Bahadur Khan served in the army, and later, his son Niaz Ali Khan also served in the army. Both brothers expanded land acquisitions to 65 kanals and northern areas to 30 kanals. Niaz Ali Khan’s first marriage produced two sons and a daughter named Ashraf Baig and Aurangzeb. His second marriage produced two sons and two daughters named Suraya Jan, Khan Baig, Balqees Bibi, and Liaquat Ali Khan.

Chapter 7

The Offspring and Upbringing of Kala Ali Khan

Kala Ali Khan had two sons and a daughter, but tragically, all three children passed away between the ages of 10-12. Some time later, the grandparents also passed away. Our lineage comes from Khan Baig. All the children were raised by Kala Ali Khan; the youngest son, Liaquat Ali Khan, was only six months old, and our father was just six years old.

Chapter 8

The Death of Kala Ali Khan and Theft in the Family

Shortly before or immediately after the death of Kala Ali Khan, a significant theft occurred in the family. All household items, assets, the family tree, jewelry, clothes, everything was stolen. The thieves were locals from the village, including Mian Mistri, a Qazi, and a man named Sharif.

Ashraf Baig made significant progress in the army, attaining the rank of Major or Colonel, and died in a tragic incident. His offspring included Muhammad Farooq and Khurshid Anwar, along with an unnamed daughter. Kala Ali Khan raised them, and after his death, their relative Haji Iqbal in Pand Begwal took care of them, with significant support from his son Raja Shabbir. Aurangzeb also passed away, leaving two sons, Amrat Baig and Fazal Rabi. Amrat Baig also passed away.

The Offspring of Khan Baig

Khan Baig had five sons: Asad Baig, Nauman Baig, Ikram Baig, Faizan Baig, and Ehtisham Baig, and four daughters. Liaquat Ali Khan had no children of his own but was considered the head of the entire family. He performed Hajj and Umrah and was known as Haji Liaquat. Haji Liaquat and Khan Baig lived together, and due to the lack of children, Khan Baig gave one son and one daughter to Haji Liaquat.

The Achievements and Death of Liaquat Ali Khan

Liaquat Ali Khan was the most renowned figure in the family and achieved significant success in the transportation industry. He was born in 1954 and passed away on June 27, 2024. Liaquat Ali Khan started working in a hotel, then bought a Ford truck body with his brother Khan Baig. Later, they formed a company named Liaquat and Brothers, purchasing dumper trucks. In his final days, he suffered from lung cancer, initially treated at Akbar Niazi Hospital and later at Kulsum International Hospital after the diagnosis. He passed away a week after the death of a nephew, Khurshid Anwar. Haji Liaquat was very attached to my two children, Muhammad Oliya Ikram and Muhammad Anbiya Ikram, and loved them dearly. Their photos and videos are still preserved.

Gratitude:

We are grateful for the sacrifices and efforts of our ancestors. Their stories will always be remembered and serve as a beacon for future generations.

Note:

The term “Baig” used with some family members is merely a pseudonym, influenced by our grandfather’s close association with General Aslam Baig. Grandfather used “Baig” as a pseudonym with his father’s name Khan.
